My youngest daughter's 15th birthday was on Sunday and she, and a friend, wanted to spend the afternoon tubing, sunning, swimming, etc. We did all of each that they could stand but it being a bit chilly/windy they decided to call it early for a bite at The Sloppy Pelican (Blind Pass in St. Pete Beach).

The Sloppy Pelican is on the East side of Blind Pass, just past the bend, as you head in from the open water... or maybe a mile and a half from the Blind Pass Bridge coming from the other direction.

We rolled in around 3:00 and found docking available for appx. 4-6 boats but with the weather windy, and a little chilly, we had them all to ourselves when we arrived.

Sloppy Pelican features two bars, one downsairs overlooking the deck and waterfront, and one upstairs and indoors. There was plenty of seating for diners outside, both covered and open air downstairs, and on the deck and indoors upstairs.

We started outside on the patio upstairs but found the direct sunlight a bit too much after a day on the water so we moved inside. There were a few smaller tables available with unbrellas but as we brought the crew it just wouldn't have worked.

Our server was friendly, attentive and managed menu questions/specials information well.

My wife ordered the avacado sandwich, Katie went with a burger (beaches best according to the menu), Elora had the chiken strips appetizer with fries, Leah the BLT and I went with the standard grouper sandwich (this time fried).

Everyone had good things to say about their choices and the traditional fries were abundant and a hit with all. My wife was very happy with the avacado sandwich (recommended by our server) and the grouper sandwich was outstanding: a very healthy portion (way more than the bun), not overly breaded or greasy and fresh! Both the wife and I would have taken half of ours home if we didn't have quite a ride home through some pretty decent swells.

All in all, a great meal, friendly/fast/couteous service, easy access with 3 well fed adults, two well fed young adults and no one with a bad thing to say for under $65?

On the next round I'll try the peel and eat shrimp (server recommendation) &/or the Clam & Muscle Sautee... my wife is looking forward to the fish tacos and maybe we'll get to enjoy an adult beverage, or two ($5 24oz Rum Runners). We will definitely be back and happily recommend The Sloppy Pelican for St. Pete Beach area boaters looking for dockside dining!
