OK, I'll admit... strange topic for the boating blog but it's been awhile and I was just taken aback at one of or local fast food establishments that I just had to post it somewhere.

My good friend, Rod, had a 13.5 Whaler that had been torn up pretty good in a storm and been sitting in the water for awhile. He's offered my yougest, Connor, the opportunity to restore her sea legs.

Got some new trailer tires, a smaller hitch for the wagon and we managed to hoist it up on some open waterfront nearby (Rod came up with the plan and provided the muscle).

Here are some images of what the boat looked like last weekend after getting it home.

While talking to a couple of retailers about sponsoring a vessel I was scouring Craig's List, Boat Trader, etc. trying to find something reliable for under $9,000. Knowing that I didn't want two payments and the 98' Tacoma wasn't going to do the trick I picked up a 2011 Dakota with 9K miles thanks to AutoNation Toyota Scion in Pinellas Park (ask for Jim Keyes).

I narrowed it down to the two best values that I could find on either source in my price range based on the NADA Guides.

Driving home from the Tampa Bay Boat Show I happened to have my eyes open for a change and noticed a sign for The Marine Supply Warehouse directly across from the Salvation Army. A friend told me that he had noticed it a couple of months ago but I'd missed it each time I passed through the area.

I was motoring up to Clearwater Pass last weekend when I suddenly lost power, not RPM's, and knew I was in trouble. We had a look the following day and sure enough the lower unit was toast... where can I get repairs done, inexpensively and have it by next weekend? Nick suggested Suncoast Marine and I'm glad I called!
